“Jo prepared our amazing 5 tier cake with beautiful sugar flowers for our wedding on 16th September 2023 and we were so impressed. The flowers were incredible and we and our guests were blown away with it. The icing matched exactly the theme and colours we wanted. The cake itself was delicious and in four different flavours. The design process was really enjoyable and Jo even liaised with our florist to make sure she got the types of flowers right. Would highly recommend.”
Last September, I had the privilege of creating an enchanting wedding cake for Matt and Steve’s special day at the beautiful Botleys Mansion. An 18th Century Palladian-style mansion in Surrey, this fairytale-worthy wedding venue features elegant spaces, twinkling chandeliers and glorious gardens – it really was the perfect setting for Matt and Steve’s love story.
Having discovered The Jo Harper Cake Company through Instagram, the couple fell in love with the modern and minimalist wedding cake design I had recently posted. Their original ideas for their wedding cake evolved into a new vision that was inspired by my cake portfolio, leading to the creation of an edible masterpiece that aligned with their wedding venue, theme and colour palette.
Matt and Steve opted for utterly indulgent flavours for their wedding cake, including coffee, salted caramel, chocolate & Irish cream and lemon, with each tier offering a decadent taste experience with every mouthful. And when it came to their design brief, the couple had their hearts set on a modern, simple and flawless design because of where it was being placed (which was in the centre of the room during the drinks reception).
Following our design consultation, Matt and Steve decided they wanted their wedding cake to match the groomsmaids’ dresses, so we adapted one of my previous blue cake creations and colour-matched the icing to a striking eucalyptus shade.
Then, I adorned their multi-tier wedding cake with bright, bold and intricate sugar flowers that were carefully handcrafted to mirror their fresh floral arrangements by the talented Gill Pike Florist. I worked closely with their wedding florist, even taking the time to learn how to expertly create a clematis flower, which has since become a favourite within my repertoire.
Subtle golden paint splatters added that final yet fabulous finishing touch to Matt and Steve’s wedding cake, framing the sugar flowers while catching the light.
The result was a luxury wedding cake that looked exquisite but also tasted utterly delicious, all while capturing the essence of Matt and Steve’s vision.
Every aspect of the couple’s wedding at Botleys Mansion was planned to absolute perfection.
Their venue stylists, Ambience Kingston Upon Thames, worked their magic to transform the setting into a romantic paradise.
Gill Pike Florist dressed the venue with colour-popping blooms that infused the space with a vibrant touch.
Suzy Elizabeth Photography and Flewid Marketing were on hand to capture their wedding day, documenting each precious moment as it took place.
Creating Matt and Steve’s vibrant wedding cake was a true pleasure and seeing their joy as they celebrated their love has brought me a huge amount of happiness. Their trust in my ability to bring their vision to life means the world and I am thrilled to be able to share a few snippets from their special day with you!
